Rethinking Digital Philanthropy 


The Challenge

Since 1992 the Community Foundation for San Benito County has given out more than $900,000 in grants to organizations that benefit people across the county. They came to us in need of a seamless digital experience that is easy to update, maintain, and use and tells the stories of the people they benefit.

The Outcome

The story-centric site repositions Give San Benito as a hub for charitable collaboration. Built around new “Live Here. Give Here.” messaging, their ongoing efforts support a variety of county-wide initiatives. In 2019, they gave out over 30 grants for a combined total of nearly $250,000.

Since their inception, they’ve donated more than $900,000 in grants to organizations that benefit people across the county. Their old site was difficult to update, maintain, and use. It also didn’t tell the stories of the people they benefit.

Working closely with the Give San Benito team, we determined that they needed to position themselves as a hub for charitable collaboration. This led to introducing the core “Live Here. Give Here.” concept.

New and ongoing donors always want to know how their giving benefits the community, so we developed a story-centric strategy for the site.

The natural beauty throughout the rural county inspired us to produce a photo-driven site that holds the visitor’s attention while highlighting their mission, current activities, and how to get involved. Central to the new site is a focus on community stories using a robust and easily customizable blog format. Sharing stories personalizes the people who benefit from the Foundation’s efforts, and encourages increased philanthropy.

Naturally, the site also includes numerous paths for people to donate and get involved.

It's easy for users to find multiples ways to get involved, whether they're on desktop or mobile.
