Cosmic Hosts: Designing the Ride

November 6th, 9pm Cosmic Studio
Eventbrite Designing The Ride

FREE EVENT! Wheel over to the Cosmic studio on Friday, November 6th for an evening exploring bicycle and accessory design.

John Caletti, from Caletti Cycles, will be on-hand showcasing the handmade custom bicycles he’s been building since 2004. We’ll get a look at the process of designing and constructing some of the most sought-after bikes in the world, made in his westside Santa Cruz shop.

Lauren Junker, from Totally Tubular Design, will be in the studio showing off the design process and results of her upcycled purses, handbags, wallets and more. Using bike tire inner tubes and other upcycled materials, she creates amazing products, all named after Santa Cruz streets and landmarks, in her workshop.

Lauren’s bringing her sewing machine and will have 2-3 products that you can buy. Pick your lining material, and tire color, and she'll sew it up for you on the spot. She’ll also have a collection of items for sale, all evening long.

Josh Muir, from Frances Cycles, will be joining us, displaying some of his incredible road, cross, cargo, randonneur, brevet, tour, adventure, and everyday bicycles. Primarily built to order, right here in Santa Cruz, he’ll reveal elements of the designs he uses to build some of the most amazing bikes you’ve ever seen.

Garrett Kautz, from Strawfoot Handmade, will be in the house, along with some of the functional and durable handcrafted bags and leather goods (including messenger bags) designed and created in Santa Cruz using vintage sewing machines and hand tools. Check out the waxed canvas bags he’s supplied Frances Cycles for their cargo bikes.

You’ll be able to purchase cycling musette bags and belts - custom made by Garrett during the event. Choose the fabric and watch it be made. Belts will be custom sized and punched. He’ll also have pre-made bags and more for sale throughout the evening.

We’re excited to have Back Porch serving up mouthwatering food made from local organic farms. They collaborate with farms and food innovators to help create delicious and memorable culinary experiences for people in the Santa Cruz area. They’re one of our go-to spots at the Downtown Farmers’ Market and we’re stoked to have them in our studio. They’ll be serving two items - a seasonal savory tart, and a seasonal sweet pie.

We’ll be pouring handcrafted ales by Corralitos Brewing.

Join us at the Cosmic studio and check out the ins-n-outs of local bike design and cool accessories. Downtown at 115 Cooper Street (corner of Cooper & Front Streets) from 5-9pm.

Please confirm via Eventbrite so that we can be sure to have enough food and drink on hand.
